Preceptorship in Primary Care

Paramedics

PA, Paramedic & ACP preceptorship

In 2021 HEE/NHSE Roadmap to Practice was released allowing Paramedics to work in Primary Care under the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS). Roadmap allows Paramedics to gain extra training within a working environment and potentially achieve their Advanced Clinical Practitioner role (ACP). It is therefore vitally important that early recognition of gaps in knowledge skills and attributes be identified by the clinician by either a Training Needs Analysis (TNA) or Professional Development Plan (PDP). Blank TNA and PDP taken from Roadmap attached below.

Early in the development of Paramedics & ACP’s in Primary Care it was identified that Physicians Associates (PA) were similar clinicians and cross over preceptorship training can capture a larger audience to give confidence and competence to all the clinicians who attend. BSOL Training Hub Ambassadors for PA’s, ACP’s and Paramedics was set up in 2022 and delivers both virtual and face-to-face training 10 months of the year. We also ask the clinicians what they want from the training sessions every year and base the sessions around the clinicians.
