Deborah Sturdy, Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care, said: ‘I am delighted that the Foundation of Nursing Studies have today launched their first Social Care Nursing Scholarship which will support two nurses who are undertaking a development programme for the first time. The programme of development, learning and mentorship will have such a positive impact on them, helping them to grow their skills and confidence.
“The scholarship will also positively benefit their peers, employer and those they care for, by empowering and further upskilling these nurses. Most importantly, it will give them the opportunity and space to grow and flourish, in order to enhance the care they give and their own career pathway.’
FoNS CEO Joanne Bosanquet said: ‘The FoNS team and I are delighted to be able to offer this scholarship specifically for registered social care nurses. Nurses in social care are looking after some of the most vulnerable people in our society in a setting which is their ‘home’. This opportunity, and the residential programme that is part of it, is underpinned by a deep understanding of culture, and will empower the scholarship winner to work collaboratively with their residents, families and team to create compassionate cultures where change is sustainable and where people want to work.’
