In early 2023, the Bsol Training Hub team, in collaboration with University College Birmingham and Healthy Academy, embarked on launching a pioneering initiative: a hybrid virtual placement. With the support of practices throughout Birmingham and Solihull, they meticulously planned and developed a program to host student nurses in primary care settings.
This innovative hybrid model was conceived in response to feedback from practices interested in supporting and hosting students but facing constraints due to workforce limitations.
The placement was designed to offer a variety of learning activities, approaches, and scenarios for students to adapt to each week, reflecting the evolving digitization of healthcare and practice’s integration of technology.
The project featured a six-week placement for ten students across eight BSol GP practices, blending two virtual days with Health Academy, two practice-based days, and one day at university. Supervisor roles were overseen by practice staff, while the assessor role was managed by Health Academy.
