Employers with a pay bill over £3 million each year, pay the apprenticeship levy.
Levy paying employers can spend apprenticeship levy funding on
apprenticeship training and end-point assessment (the assessment of apprentices by an independent organisation, required before they can complete the apprenticeship).
Apprenticeships can also be funded via levy transfers; this is when a levy paying employer agrees to fund the course fees for an apprentice who is employed by a different employer.
In preparation for receiving apprenticeship levy for paying the apprenticeship fees (the organisation employing the apprentice needs to set up a Apprenticeships Digital Service Account (DAS).

The Fundamentals in General Practice (FGPN) course is available for newly qualified and new to practice nurses (those within the first 12 months of employment) with the course fees being fully funded by NHSE.
Birmingham and Solihull Training Hub allocate the funding each year for courses available at Birmingham City University and Wolverhampton university. This 12-month course includes contact days at the University, alongside online activities and supervised practice with a General Practice Nurse mentor.
All General Practice Nurse skills are covered including immunisation, cytology and ear irrigation. There is a strong focus on consultation, communication and assessment skills as well as chronic disease management, underpinning physiology and motivational interviewing

Lincolnshire Training Hub have successfully been awarded 188 funded places on the General Practice Assistant accredited course for the Midlands. This will be evenly split across the Training Hubs across the region.

Potential cohorts running in September 2024, January 2025 and June 2025. See below the process for expressing interest in the next cohorts:
Step 1 – Using EOI link on Lincolnshire Training Hub (LTH) website all learners to submit online form
Step 2- LTH will approve learners on a first come basis, providing they are employed in post as a GP Assistant (GPA)
Step 3- LTH will share approved names with local TH
Step 4- LTH and the University of Derby will ensure learners are enrolled and supported through the process

PNA Training Programme funded by NHS England
The Professional Nurse Advocate (PNA) Training Programme is a virtual accredited Level 7 master’s clinical professional development training programme that will run for 10 days but can vary over weeks or months.
The training programme will equip registered nurses with the skills and knowledge to support the mental health and wellbeing of fellow colleagues and improvement of patient care, by equipping individuals to support their fellow colleagues, facilitate restorative clinical supervision in practise, and lead and deliver quality improvement initiatives in response to the service demands and the ongoing changing patient requirements.
The criteria for the PNA training programme requires that you:
• are a registered nurse
• are in a patient facing role
• are Band 5 or above
• already hold an accredited Level 6 qualification (degree or degree equivalent/ top-up accredited Level 6 CPD course)
• have practice manager/ lead nurse approval to be released

NHSE funding can be requested to support access to the Post Graduate Diploma Community Nursing Specialist Practice Qualification- General Practice Nursing
Wolverhampton Uni aims to offer the specialist practice course from September 2024 which will be a Post Graduate course at Masters’ Level 7 and intends to offer the V300 module as a key component of the course.
The course is intended to be offered 1-year Full time and 2 -year part-time. Applicants will need to be:
- A level 1 registered nurse with a minimum of 1 year post registration experience with relevant professional qualifications.
- Able to provide evidence of degree level study and possess level 2 /GCSE grade c+ /4 in math’s and
English qualifications. - Able to secure a practice assessor and an experienced prescriber with suitable equivalent qualifications for the programme who is willing to assess you for 90 hours of prescribing practice.
The applicant will be required to meet 125 days in clinical practice across the course and therefore should be working at least 30 hours per week within a primary care placement.

NHS England are offering funding to support a Fellowship in Deprivation. The 12 month fellowship package comprises of the following:
- NHSE funding:
- £20,102 in funding support for GP fellows for two sessions per week or,
- 20% of non-GP fellows’ AfC annual pay scale step point for the 1 day per week aligned to personal development.
- Fellows will be able to access up to £4,000 to cover postgraduate tuition fees and other costs associated with undertaking an approved programme of education and training
- Monthly national training delivered in conjunction with HEE Yorkshire and Humber. Details of previous programmes can be found on the Fairhealth website
- The fellow will be expected to complete a quality improvement project during their Fellowship, which will need to be agreed by the practice and the PCN
- Mentor assigned to fellows through the Supporting Mentors scheme to provide a monthly mentoring session

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism aims to provide the social care and health workforce with the right skills and knowledge to provide safe, compassionate, and informed care to autistic people and people with a learning disability.
Oliver’s training is delivered in 2 Tiers. Health and Social Care staff need to complete either Tier 1 or Tier 2.
Both tiers consist of 2 parts. The first part of both Tier 1 and Tier 2 is this e-learning module
Everyone will need the e-learning regardless of where they work and the Tier of training they require. It is free to access.
The second part of the training is either a live 1 hour online interactive session for those needing Tier 1, or, a 1-day face to face training for people who require Tier 2. Speak with your employer on how to access the second part of this mandatory training
