The Receptionist plays a key role as the first point of contact for patients, ensuring a welcoming, professional, and efficient service both in person and over the telephone.
The post holder will support the smooth day-to-day running of the practice by managing patient enquiries, coordinating communication between patients and clinical teams, and carrying out a range of administrative duties.
The role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality and delivering high standards of patient care.
The successful candidate will be based at Kings Norton Surgery, with the potential to cover shifts at Ash Tree and Keynell Covert Surgeries.
The role is contracted at 30 hours per week, worked over 5 days (6 hours per day), with a shift pattern of either 8:00am–2:00pm or 12:30pm–6:30pm.
- Greet patients warmly on arrival and provide a positive first impression of the practice
- Answer telephone and face-to-face enquiries, providing accurate information and directing patients appropriately
- Act as a liaison between patients, clinical staff and wider teams to ensure effective communication
- Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, including emails, letters and clinical documents
- Carry out general administrative and clerical tasks to support practice operations
- Book, amend and manage patient appointments in line with practice procedures
- Ensure all patient information is handled in accordance with GDPR and confidentiality requirements
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records using clinical systems (e.g. EMIS)
- Support the wider team in delivering a safe, efficient and patient-focused service
- Contribute to a positive team environment and demonstrate flexibility to support service needs
