We are seeking a compassionate and motivated GP Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our
primary care team primarily for a period of maternity cover for approximately 35 hours per
week. Working hours will consist of two full days and three half days.
Once the maternity cover has been completed there is the possibility of a permanent part
time job share option.
The successful candidate will work alongside the Lead Nurse, Practice Nurse, Phlebotomist
and General Practitioners in delivering high-quality patient care within the GP practice
setting. This role involves both clinical and administrative duties, ensuring patients receive
efficient and professional support.

Clinical Duties:
- ECG recordings
- Phlebotomy
- Urinalysis
- Vaccination under PSD
- Follow up wound care under nurse instruction
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Height, weight, and BMI measurements
- Carry out health checks and patient screenings
- Support chronic disease management clinics (e.g. diabetes, asthma)
- Prepare and maintain clinical rooms and equipment
- Manage infection control procedures
Patient Care:
- Provide reassurance and support to patients during consultations
- Promote health education and wellbeing advice
- Maintain patient dignity, confidentiality, and respect at all times
Administrative Duties:
- Accurately record patient information in electronic health records
- Manage stock levels and order clinical supplies
- Support appointment preparation and follow-up processes
Essential:
- Previous experience in a GP Practice setting
- Trained and competent in the full HCA role including phlebotomy
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic IT skills and familiarity with SystmOne
- Understanding of patient confidentiality and safeguarding
Desirable:
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
